I hold it for one of the major steps realized in the evolution process of terrestrial living nature that there are from a certain moment on a pair of individuals of a species needed for reproduction -for creating a new set of possibilities (or perhaps rather opportunities effectively considered) to ‘deal’ with the ever changing environmental situation to live on and to reproduce again, the only two (reflexively combined) senses of the existence of living beings-, because from then on an exponential acceleration was reached in bringing forward new possibilities -and so opportunities- per generation in relatively less individuals (also an opening -or a condition so to say- of a pathway to more complex forms of life) to continue with more guarantees a life form -and so life itself- that moment and again and again in the future. This all, just by ‘simple’ combination of the hereditary material.
